Lessons learned

I had a fantastic Sunday. Again the temps were in the 70's. How about that for November Missouri weather.
The picture is of a good friend of mine. Her first time on a horse and of course it would be Raven.
Amber and I spent a good 3 hours with the horses. She even got to ride Beemer and I rode my Arab Raven. I have had Raven for years and with age and trust she gets along well with most people. She has only been ridden once in a year. She has stolen Freckles foal from her. When she is saddled she acts like she has had lessons given on her every day. Now don't get me wrong. She can be a true Arab on a trail ride and she hates to see other horses running on a trail ride. My daughter has had her in the American Royal and did beautiful.
My son has ridden her bareback. My granddaughter would lope on a long line with her.
I was surprised that the ride went so well as Beemer is gray to the point of White. Raven being a black horse hates white horses. I have tried to figure out why that is for years. She didn't jump at anything and it was windy. While we were riding we came up on a small deer. Se think this deer lost it's mom this spring and it has been on the farm several times that we know of. This little deer just keeps on grazing and never runs. I can tell you we were talking loud. I knew the horses would not bother it. I am surprised it did not run from us. It was a beautiful site. We had lots of fun.
I am wanting to start on giving lessons to Snickers. We need to start on her. She does a good job on her halter and will get in and out of the trailer. It is time to get a tarp out and start working with her. Amber will find out Friday if she has to have surgery and if she does she will not be able to ride for 6 weeks. This will be an excellent time for Amber to learn how to start training. Amber does a wonderful job when she works with Snickers.
We will miss the riding time for sure. I Had hoped to have Jenny come ride with me we could just load up the horses and go to Honey Creek. I know she is so busy with her horses. She is training her horses from the start to the finish and believe me she has plenty to train. We have learned so much in training and which is the best method. I think when we start breaking horses we realize how much time and energy goes into a well rounded horse. Hopefully next year Jenny and Nicole will have some ready to take on the trails and we can all go and have a good time. As much as I think I know about horses there is always something new to learn.
